Goldilocks Smart Solutions
Radar based fall detection for senior living.
What they do
The problem: Falls are the leading cause of injury-related death for adults 65+, and the bathroom — specifically the shower — is where a disproportionate share of them happen. Wet tile, temperature swings, and the physical strain of reaching for a mixing valve create a high-risk moment that happens every single day, often with no one around to help. Senior care facilities know this, but the tools available to them are decades old: static grab bars, non-slip mats, and hope. Staff can't be in every bathroom for every shower, and the liability, insurance costs, and human toll from fall-related injuries keep climbing as facilities are asked to do more with leaner staffing.
The product: Goldilocks Smart Solutions builds Goldie, a voice-controlled, radar-based retrofit device that turns any existing shower into a smart, fall-aware one — no plumbing overhaul required. Goldie uses radar sensing to detect a resident's presence and movement in real time, pairs with voice control so residents don't need to grip or twist anything to adjust water, and maintains a safe, consistent temperature automatically. It's sold on a hardware-plus-SaaS model: a one-time device cost per unit plus a monthly subscription that gives facilities live monitoring, fall-risk alerts, and usage data they can act on. Because it retrofits onto what's already installed, facilities can deploy it room by room without a capital renovation project.
Why now: The senior population is growing faster than the senior-care workforce, which means fewer staff are being asked to prevent more incidents with less oversight per resident. At the same time, sensing hardware — radar, low-power compute, voice — has gotten cheap and reliable enough to put in a bathroom retrofit at a price point operators can actually justify against their fall-related liability costs. Facilities are also under increasing pressure from insurers and regulators to show proactive safety measures, not just reactive ones. Goldilocks is already proving this out: we've completed a pilot with zero falls recorded, and we have two additional paid pilots underway with a single-site and a multi-state operator — real facilities putting real budget behind the thesis that shower safety needs to be actively monitored, not just passively equipped.
